I'm a stay at home mom of 4 cute kids. I love anything that has to do with homes & decorating. My husband Steve often gets recruited into helping me finish things that I start! We are making our house a "HOME" one project at a time!!

Fireplace Inspiration

As part of our kitchen remodel, we decided to change our fireplace in the great room too.
I've been dreaming about a fireplace with a wooden mantel & decorative woodwork for a LONG time.
It is done and ready for paint.  I picked out tile today, but it was on backorder, so it might be a few weeks before I post a final picture.
I have to admit, I was shocked at how beautiful it turned out!
It's not even painted & it's gorgeous...that's always a good sign!
Our contractor is AMAZING...I show him a picture & a few days later it's in my house!

Here are a few of the fireplaces, that I found inspiration from...
This mantel is gorgeous!!

We added planks like this above the mantel...

We are hoping to have the kitchen done in two weeks.
It's always a rush at the end to get everything finished.  I did shed a few tears on Saturday when they arrived to put in our wood floors.  They started and the wood we had purchased wouldn't connect with our existing wood floors.  Then there was panic that we couldn't match it at all, which would lead to ripping out all of our flooring!  That would be a big expense we weren't planning on. Luckily, they had sent us the wrong flooring!  They only had a few boxes of the flooring we needed on hand, but at least half of the kitchen flooring was able to be installed.  Hopefully, the rest will arrive in the next few days.  I'll admit,  remodeling has been more stressful than I thought it would be, but I know it will all be worth it when it's complete!

Messes EVERYWHERE...

We are in the middle of the "not -so -fun" part of our remodel.
Let's just say, it's a little overwhelming to have clutter & messes everywhere.
I don't function too well with clutter.  It drives me crazy!
We have a fridge in the hallway...
 A microwave on the floor...
You can grab a snack or bowl of cereal right in the living room...
Our great room is a cluster of furniture in the middle of the room...
The basement is just plain scary, this is only one side of the mess...
We have a few plastic walls to try & keep the dust down...
Then I walk into my "new" kitchen & get excited...
I was shocked at how open it feels after they took down the temporary wall.
It's messy, but I can finally picture what it's going to look like in the end.
I love planning where I'll put the table, pendant lights and a few other decorations.
We still have a ways to go because we are changing the mantel on the fireplace in the great room and adding new trim around all of the windows.
They are going to be starting on our ceiling tonight.
You can see a few examples of the ceiling I picked HERE.
These are the pendant lights I picked to go above my island...

I never thought I'd say this, but "I can't wait to be able to cook dinner again."
